Buhari Queries Nanono over Fertilizer Import Waivers

President Muhammadu Buhari has queried the Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Sabo Nanono, for issuing import waivers to some companies to import fertilizer into the country contrary to the presidential fertilizer initiative policy, which focuses on increasing local production capacity for the product.

The query came through the Chief of Staff to the President, Malam Abba Kyari, requesting explanations on the breach of presidential policy.

The Africa Fertilizer Financing Mechanism’s Governing Council closed its eighth meeting with a call for increased investment to boost agricultural yields and build the industry across the continent.

FAO distributes water pumps, fertilizers to Borno farmers

The Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), said it has distributed irrigation water pumps and fertilisers to 4,000 farmers in Borno State, to restore livelihood in the agriculture and livestock sectors.

According to a 2018 post-harvest survey, FAO dry season support generated over N186.10million from farmers’ sale of crops, including rice, tomatoes, and onions.
