WAFA Launches a Pivotal Workshop for the Future of the Fertilizer Sector in West Africa
Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire – October 29, 2024
The West Africa Fertilizer Association (WAFA), in partnership with the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) and the USAID-funded EnGRAIS project, has opened a collaborative workshop in Abidjan. Over three days, the workshop brings together 50 representatives from 15 African countries, aiming to strengthen national fertilizer supplier associations and advance their role as advocates within regional agricultural policy development.
On Day 1, participants addressed major industry challenges, including limited fertilizer availability, financing difficulties, and regulatory barriers in their respective countries. Dialogue between producers, distributors, associations, and sector experts revealed common obstacles, despite the variety of national contexts.
This workshop stands out for its mission to enhance regional collaboration on fertilizer policies, facilitating sustainable, innovative solutions. By building synergies across countries, the initiative seeks to develop concerted approaches to support agricultural growth and strengthen regional food security. Upcoming sessions will focus on fertilizer policies, capacity-building for associations, and regional integration strategies.
With the hope that this workshop will yield fresh insights and actionable steps, WAFA and its partners remain committed to supporting West Africa in this collective journey.
