WAFA charts a new strategic direction in Bamako to strengthen its impact in West Africa

On April 7–8, 2025, the WAFA Board of Directors held a high-level strategic session in Bamako, Mali, gathering around fifteen representatives from across the region. Chaired by Mr. Al Hassane SIENOU, this meeting marked a major milestone in the revitalization of WAFA’s activities and the launch of its 2025–2027 strategic roadmap.

🏭 A powerful on-site immersion

Hosted at Toguna Agro Industries, participants were welcomed by CEO Mr. NANTOUME, who led a tour of the facilities. The visit provided a tangible context and energy for bold, collaborative thinking.

📌 A clear and actionable roadmap

Key outcomes of the meeting included:

  • A full review of 2024 activities and approval of financial statements;
  • The adoption of a concrete roadmap based on 7 strategic pillars, covering financing, governance, member trade, visibility, research, and youth engagement;
  • The launch of the 2025–2027 Strategic Plan, developed in partnership with a firm and expected within 90 days;
  • A new regional soil mapping and agronomic data collection initiative, supported by WAFA’s institutional partners ;
  • The appointment of task leaders for each pillar to ensure operational follow-up;
  • The establishment of the WAFA TRADE cooperative, the launch of a WAFA quality label, and regional contracts to secure key fertilizers;
  • An agreement to revise WAFA’s statutes and expand financing partnerships.

🤝 Strengthened institutional dialogue

WAFA was honored by a visit from the President of CNDT Mali, who reaffirmed his institution’s support. His visit highlighted the growing importance of public-private engagement in agricultural input policy.

🏁 A meaningful closing

The meeting ended on a warm and cordial note with a closing cocktail offered by Toguna Agro Industries. A heartfelt moment came with the presentation of a commemorative plaque to the outgoing President, Colonel Moussa DIABATE now Honorary President, in recognition of his visionary leadership and his flawless term of office.

This symbolic gesture reflected WAFA’s deep-rooted culture of continuity and mutual respect.
